Why do I need health insurance?
Your health and well-being are extremely important.
If you suffer a sickness or injury, the most important thing is for you to get the proper medical attention. Without health insurance, the cost of medical services could limit your access to medical care or leave you with a large debt to pay.
SFU policy requires that,
as an international student, you have basic health insurance
for the entire duration of your studies at SFU. If you are
bringing family,
they should also have adequate health insurance during their
stay in Canada.
The Global Campus
Health Plan, offered through David Cummings Insurance Services (DCIS),
provides top quality insurance
coverage at a low cost for international students
and their family members. It is designed to
cover students during the three month waiting period
for the BC Medical Services Plan (MSP) or
during the entire study period for students who will not
qualify for MSP. The coverage is also available to SFU
faculty and staff who are new to BC and need coverage for
the waiting period for MSP.
