Why do I need health insurance?
Your health and well-being are extremely important.
If you suffer a sickness or injury, the most important thing is to get the proper medical attention.
Without health insurance, the cost of medical services in Canada could leave you with a large debt to pay and limit your access to medical care.
For example, the cost of a hospital stay can range from $1000 to over $6000 per day.
With GCHP, you can rest at ease knowing that you are well covered.
The Global Campus Health Plan, offered exclusively through David Cummings Insurance Services (DCIS), provides top quality insurance coverage at a low cost. It is designed to cover international students either during the waiting period for Medical Services Plan of BC (MSP) or during the entire study period for those not eligible for MSP.
Who can apply for coverage?
International students (including practicum students and interns) registered for part-time or full-time study at Vancouver Island University are eligible to purchase the Global Campus Health Plan (GCHP). You must be under age 65 to apply for this plan.
If you have family who will reside with, or visit you during your study term, you may apply to have them covered as dependents on your policy.
Faculty and Staff of VIU who are either new to BC, or returning to BC, may purchase coverage under the Global Campus Health Plan for their 3-month MSP wait period.
If you are not eligible to purchase coverage under the Global Campus Heath Plan, please contact us (David Cummings Insurance Services) to learn about other insurance options available to you.
