I. Enrolment
- How do I know if I am enrolled?
International students studying at VIU International Education: Your Global Campus Health Plan ID card will be emailed to you (as a pdf document) to the email address you include in your application form. International students at Malaspina High School at VIU: Your Global Campus Health Plan ID card will be emailed to Malaspina High School and will be given to you by the school. The details about your insurance are in the Policy Wording which is found in the coverage section of this website. Medical Claim forms and directions about how to make a claim can be printed from the claims section of this website.

- How can I extend my GCHP coverage?
Students may extend their GCHP coverage if they will maintain student status during the extension period. To apply, contact DCIS.
Please note:
- If your GCHP coverage has already expired, your new coverage will begin on the date we receive your extension application and payment.
- Extensions to GCHP coverage are not offered to students for travel after their study term. Other insurance options are offered by DCIS for leisure travel. Contact DCIS for more information on these options.

- Can I get coverage for my dependent family members?
Yes. You may purchase GCHP coverage for your spouse/partner and/or your dependent children under the age of 25. Read the Family Members page for more information.

- Where do I get my GCHP ID card?
Your GCHP ID card will be emailed as a pdf document to the email address you include in your application form.
<back to top >- What do I do if I never got my GCHP ID card and I have to go to the doctor or the hospital?
In a medical emergency, the priority is to get medical treatment as quickly as possible. In this case you would be billed for the medical service. As soon as you are able to, notify DCIS that you have received medical treatment and need your GCHP insurance documents to make a claim.
If it is not an emergency, first check to see if you are covered on the GCHP by contacting DCIS. Indicate that you need to seek medical attention and that you need your insurance documents.

- What should I do if there is incorrect information on my GCHP ID card?
Contact DCIS by email. In the email, please write “Incorrect GCHP ID card” as the subject. In the message, indicate your name, student number, date of arrival in BC, and description of the error you detected on the card.

IV. Claims and Direct Billing (currently only available in Canada)
1. If I paid for a doctor's visit or prescription medications, how do I get my money back?
You must mail all original receipts, along with a Medical Claim Form, to Norfolk Mobility Benefits:

Calgary, AB T2P 3T1Include receipts for payment(s) to a doctor/clinic, for prescription medication at a pharmacy, for a lab test or x-ray, or for treatment at the out-patient emergency ward of a hospital. Before you mail original documents, make copies for your own records.
If you have already paid for a doctor’s visit and did not have the doctor complete the claim form for you, you may complete it yourself. You must describe the reason for your visit and summarize the diagnosis provided by the doctor.

2. Which clinics and pharmacies can bill the GCHP directly, so that I don’t have to pay up front?
No direct billing clinics or pharmacies are available in Nanaimo at this time.
Note:
- Participating clinics will only bill your GCHP insurance for expenses that are covered on policy.
- You are not required to receive treatment at the clinics named above. The clinics and doctors listed above offer the added convenience of billing your medical expenses to your GCHP directly so you do not have to pay up front.
- Direct billing is currently only available in Canada
V. Coverage
- What does the GCHP cover?
The GCHP covers emergency hospitalization and medical services (including out-patient treatment at a doctor's clinic) for an unexpected sickness or injury. The full list of benefits and coverage limits, conditions, and exclusions are in the Policy Wording.

<back to top>- Am I covered while playing sports or participating in recreational activities?
You are covered for most recreational sports, but you are not covered for the following sports and activities:
“mountaineering, scuba diving, rock or precipice climbing, hang gliding, paragliding, sport parachuting, sky diving, athletic or sports activities for remuneration or prize money, or while riding or driving in or on any motorized vehicle or device in any race of speed contest.” See General Exclusion #8 in the policy wording.
